چکیده

In regards of increasingly stringent rules on toxicity, prediction engines for potable water treatment have become a necessity. This particularly applies to oxidation steps, where micropollutants should be removed and where potentially harmful by-products may be formed, and has therefore lead to the building up of a new simulator for both chlorination and ozonation. This first report aims at giving a clear overview on the investigation fields related to modelling of oxidation for water purification. Different aspects are thus developed in the following pages. Besides kinetics and hydraulics, special topics on informatics and applied mathematics are discussed as well, presenting simulators that exist and specific calculation procedures. The originality of the modelling lies namely in its adaptability to on site conditions, which implies specific numerical methods to be implemented. Basing on the bibliographic review (illustrated by first numerical examples), the present work finally will exhibit the challenges to be faced during development.

Modeling Micropollutant Removal by Ozonation and Chlorination in Potable Water Treatment

Having set general frames for our study [Mandel, 2007] and our software, SimOx, [Mandel et al., 2008] in previous publications, this report aims at giving a brief overview of the experimental part of the research done in 2008. The experiments were divided in two periods: from January to June and from October to the end of the year. During the first period, results were collected to validate a p...

Changes in Water Quality Parameters in Different Processes of Surface Water Treatment Plant (Case study: Tehranpars Water Treatment Plant)

Background and purpose: Water treatment is of great importance in human life, due to the contamination of water resources. Therefore, continuous evaluation of the performance of water treatment plants is necessary to minimize contamination within the treatment plant in order to create optimal conditions. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive analytic study was performed in Te...

Are we about to upgrade wastewater treatment for removing organic micropollutants?

Activated sludge treatment allows only for a partial removal of micropollutants, mainly via sorption and biological degradation. Ozonation and activated carbon filtration are processes bearing the potential to drastically reduce the micropollutant load discharged to the environment after (centralized) biological treatment. The estimated total costs between 0.05 and 0.20 euro per m3 treated wate...

Formation of Stable Transformation Products of Pharmaceuticals in the Water Treatment Cycle

After human consumption, pharmaceutically active substances can be excreted and enter the effluent treatment facilities. Often degradation in sewage and water treatment and the environment is incomplete, resulting in the formation of transformation products. Within the Pharmas project (EU grant agreement no. 265346) three anticancer drugs were evaluated for the formation of stable transformatio...

Changes in concentrations of triazine and acetamide herbicides by bank filtration, ozonation, and chlorination in a public water supply

The changes in triazine and acetamide concentrations in water during natural and artificial treatment by bank filtration, ozonation, filtration, and chlorination were measured at the well field and drinking water treatment plant of Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. The city’s groundwater supply is affected by induced infiltration and transport of triazines and acetamide herbicides from the Platte River i...
